High-performance Computing on Heterogeneous Systems
A model two-processor heterogeneous computer consisting of one scalar and one vector processor is analyzed in terms of its performance. It is demonstrated that on mixed-type (scalar-vector) applications it is much more effective than a homogeneous environment. Various models of the job distribution are introduced. A working implementation in the field of quantum chemistry is presented.
متن کاملRAPID for high-performance computing systems: architecture and performance evaluation.
The limited bandwidth and the increase in power dissipation at longer communication distances and higher bit rates will create a major communication bottleneck in high-performance computing systems (HPCS), affecting not only their performance, but also their scalability. As a solution, we propose an optical-interconnect-based architecture for HPCS called reconfigurable all-photonic interconnect...
متن کاملTask Scheduling Algorithm for High Performance Heterogeneous Distributed Computing Systems
The main objective of task scheduling is to assign tasks onto available processors with the aim of producing minimum schedule length and without violating the precedence constraints. Several algorithms have been proposed for solving task-scheduling problem. The most of them doesn't take into account the average communication of parents and data ready time. In this paper, a new static scheduling...
متن کاملHigh-performance mixed-machine heterogeneous computing
The focus of this invited keynote paper (to represented by H. J. Siegel) is mixed-machine heterogeneous computing, where a suite of different kinds of high-performance machines are interconnected by high-speed links. Such a system can be orchestrated to perform an application whose subtaslw have diverse execution requirements. $ubtasks are assigned to and executed on the machines that will resu...
متن کاملThe Design and Performance of Batched BLAS on Modern High-Performance Computing Systems
A current trend in high-performance computing is to decompose a large linear algebra problem into batches containing thousands of smaller problems, that can be solved independently, before collating the results. To standardize the interface to these routines, the community is developing an extension to the BLAS standard (the batched BLAS), enabling users to perform thousands of small BLAS opera...
